Ready Always to Give an Answer

Peter instructs the Christian to be ready always to give an answer to the hope he has in Christ his Savior. There is a two-fold purpose in this command, both will have an everlasting impact and therefore vital that he understand completely what is being asked of him, and its consequences for the unprepared.

The first purpose, and most obvious is to be ready to GIVE an answer, (Share your Faith) with every man who asks. One great reason God leaves Christians in the world after their conversion is to be a witnesses of Him. Jesus commanded us to be lights in this dark world that others might see and be saved. Solomon admonishes us that, "he that winneth souls is wise." (Proverbs 11:30)

The second purpose, and much less obvious to most, is to be ready to share your faith with every man who asks the REASON of the hope, (What you Believe). Jesus asked a pointed question to the blind man He had just healed, "Dost thou believe on the Son of God?" (John 9:35).   Jesus searches the heart to see if it's just religion, or do you really believe on Him. Do you know what you believe, or are you just following the crowd and going through the motions.

The reason so few are truly converted today is that so few Christian's really know what they believe. They have heard some preacher, or read some book by a popular writer, but have never searched out Christ Himself to know Him for themselves. It's a high price to pay to know Christ in Spirit and Truth. Few are willing to pay it, few travel down that narrow road and as a result, few are truly converted.

This study page has been setup specifically for the purpose of our preparation and understanding of this great faith we profess in Christ, and to better equip us to share our faith with every man who asks the reason of our hope. Our only source is the Word of God and the Spirit of God who will lead us into this great faith. "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17

"...His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him..." (2 Peter 1:3)

Do You Know What You Believe?
And are you able to give a defense for your faith with meekness and fear?

Unskilful In The Word

"For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. " Hebrews 5:12-14

Going On Unto Perfection

"Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment." Hebrews 6:1-2

The Apologetics Mandate

"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:" I Peter 3:15

Apologetics   a-pol-o-get-ic (n.) – branch of theology that deals with the defense and proof of Christian doctrine.

The charges brought against the Christians caused the emergence of a new genre of Christian literature, the apology, taken from the greek apologia, meaning a speech for the defense. The authors of these works are known collectively as the Apologists, whose works were developed between 130 and 180 AD (an era frequently referred to as, the Age of the Apologists).

Witnessing the Biblical Way

It's all about Life, His Life. He came to give Life, His Life. We have the great priveledge, ya rather a great responsibility to share His Life. Paul said, "I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel..." (Romans 1:14-15). We owe this world the Life of Jesus Christ, but if we don't have His life in us, how can we share it with a lifeless world. You cannot export what you do not have!

Here is a simple start for knowing and sharing the Life of Christ.

1. Study
Prepared by the Gospel

"And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;" (Ephesians 6:15)

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth."
(2 Timothy 2:15)

2. Be Filled
Inpowered by the Holy Spirit

"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." (Acts 1:8)

"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things,
and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
(John 14:26)

"But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak,
neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye:
for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost."
(Mark 13:11)

3. Intercede
Labour to Bring Fourth Life

"Be in pain, and labour to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail:" (Micah 4:10)

"...for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children." (Isaiah 66:8)
