less than a revolution,

The Lord Jesus Christ

The central theme of The Old Time Gospel is the Lord Jesus Christ. He is in-fact the central theme of all humanity. In no other is it said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life..." (John 14:6). Believe in Him or not, "As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God" (Romans 14:11).

It is a great honor to dedicate this web site to my saviour, and pray that through this humble tool, many will grow in the grace and knowledge of our soon coming King. The scripture below best expresses my prayer for this website.

"Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust."

Doctrine of Christology

How Could Jesus Be Both Divine and Human?     by R. C. Sproul
One of the great crises in evangelical Christianity today is a lack of understanding about the person of Christ. Almost every time I watch Christian television I hear one of the classical creeds of the Christian faith being denied blatantly, unknowingly, unwittingly. And of course, part of the reason is that it is so difficult for us to understand how one person can have two natures.

Praying in the Name of Christ     by Thomas Boston
It is not a bare faithless mentioning of his name in our prayers, nor finishing our prayers with them, Matthew 7:21. The saints use the words, "through Jesus Christ our Lord," 1 Corinthians 15:57, but often is that scabbard produced, while the sword of the Spirit is not in it. The words are said, but the faith is not exercised.

Of Christ's Offices in General     by Thomas Boston
There is a typical action crowning Joshua the high priest with two crowns, which is applied and explained in the following verses as representing Christ in his offices, who has on his head many crowns. There is a prophecy of the incarnation of Christ, under the metaphor of a branch, as sprung from the family of David, and making but a mean appearance in the world, "as a root out of a dry ground." In the verse where our text lies, we have the offices which he was to execute as our Redeemer; which are three.

Holding Christ Fast     by Robert Murray M'Cheyne
It was a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother's house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me." HAVE YOU found Him whom your soul loves? Have you this day seen His beauty, heard His voice, believed the record concerning Him, sat under His shadow, found fellowship with Him? Then hold Him, and do not let Him go.

I Have Loved Thee     by T. Austin-Sparks
The issue, after all, at the end, in the coming of the Lord, will be that there is that which draws out His own heart and makes it possible for Him to say this kind of thing - "I have loved thee!" And this is a discriminating statement. We must place an emphasis upon the "thee" because that represents a certain condition that does answer to the heart of the Lord. The Lord loves ALL His children, but there seems to be something special here.

Able to Save     by J. C. Ryle
Reader, this is the way I want you to walk in. I want you to come unto God by Jesus Christ. Let there be no mistake as to the object which true ministers of the Gospel have in view. We are not set apart merely to perform a certain round of ordinances; to read prayers, to Christen those that are Christened, to bury those that are buried, to marry those that are ruined. We are set apart for the grand purpose of proclaiming the one true living way, and inviting you to walk in it.

The Word Made Flesh     by Robert Murray M'Cheyne
You remember, brethren, when Philip went down to Samaria, it is said that "he preached Christ unto them, and there was great joy in that city." You remember that the apostle Paul says, "I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ and him crucified." Now, brethren, it is really the case that the only object in the world that can give peace to your soul is "Christ, and him crucified."

According to Christ     by T. Austin-Sparks
Have we in the New Testament a clearly defined and completely set-out plan of the Church, its order, constitution, methods and work? Is there a concise and worked-out system in the nature of a 'blue-print', which is ready for copying and reproducing everywhere, and can be recognised as true to type in every place? The answer is decidedly No! But if we mean: Is there in the New Testament a revelation of God's mind as to the Church, in its nature, constitution, and vocation? it is no contradiction of the above when we say: Yes, decidedly Yes!

Christ Altogether Lovely     by John Flavel
He is "Altogether Lovely!" Here it is said of Jesus Christ, which cannot be said of any mere creature, that he is "altogether lovely." Let us consider this excellent expression, and particularly reflect on what is contained in it, and you shall find this expression "altogether lovely."

A Discourse of the Cleansing Virtue of Christ's Blood     by Stephen Charnock
"And the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanseth us from all sin." 1 John 1:7   With the Father, as the source and spring of eternal life and happiness; with the Son, as mediator, who has opened the way to us, removed the bars, and given us an access to and a communion with the Father.

Christ is All     by J. C. Ryle
Christ is the mainspring both of doctrinal and practical Christianity. A right knowledge of Christ is essential to a right knowledge of sanctification as well as justification. He that follows after holiness will make no progress unless he gives to Christ His rightful place.

Loving Jesus Christ     by John A. Broadus
Jesus saith to Simon Peter: Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him: Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him: Feed my lambs   (John 21:15).

The Hireling and the True Shepherd     by Robert Murray M'Cheyne
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and know my [sheep], and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Titles of the Risen Lord     by T. Austin-Sparks
We are today occupied with the Resurrection side of the Cross, and this afternoon I'm going to ask you to consider with me some of the titles of the Risen Lord: the Resurrection titles of the Lord Jesus.

Christ's Friendship: Its Intimacy     by Andrew Murray
"No Longer Do I Call You Servants; for the Servant Knoweth Not What His Lord Doeth: But I Have Called You Friends; for All Things That I Heard From My Father, I Have Made Known Unto You"   (John 15.15).

Not Faith, But Christ     by Horatius Bonar
The work of Christ for us is the object of faith; the Spirit's work in us is that which produces this faith: it is out of the former, not of the latter, that our peace and justification come. Without the touch of the rod the water would not have gushed forth; yet it was the rock and not the rod, that contained the water.

God in Christ Reconciling the World     by Robert Murray M'Cheyne
"To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation." (I Corinthians 5:19) In these words we have an epitome, or short description, of the gospel ministry.

The Divine Power Of The Gospel     by John Owen
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation, to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." (Romans 1:16)

Christ is the Life of Believers     by Thomas Brooks
"When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory." The words do speak out the time when the glorious life of believers shall be manifested, and that is, when Christ shall appear in glory. I have in some other place observed from these words this point-namely, that the Lord Jesus Christ is the life of believers.

A Man in Christ     by T. Austin-Sparks
Nothing should be copied or mechanical in our life and ministry, but everything emerging from a first-hand experience of God. This is the secret of spiritual authority. What made the authority of the Lord Jesus greater than that of the scribes (Matthew 7:29) was not that He had more academic information than they had, but that He clearly spoke from His own experience, He spoke directly from God.

The Free Obedience of Christ     by Robert Murray M'Cheyne
The death of Christ is, my friends, the most wonderful event past, present, or future in the whole universe. It is so in the eye of God? "Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life." There is nothing in the whole world so lovely as his Son. It is not only for his Godhead, but on account of his manhood, through which he laid down his life?
