"My words are Spirit and Life, and not to be weighed by the understanding of man. They are not to be drawn forth for vain approbation, but to be heard in silence, and to be received with all humility and great affection."
Thomas à Kempis

Charles Wesley   (1707 - 1788)   As a hymn-writer Charles Wesley was unique. He is said to have written no less than 6500 hymns, and though, of course, in so vast a number some are of unequal merit, it is perfectly marvellous how many there are which rise to the highest degree of excellence.

Frances Jane Crosby   (1820 - 1915)   Fanny Crosby was probably the most prolific hymnist in history. In her lifetime, she was one of the best known women in the United States. To this day, the vast majority of American hymnals contain her work.

Isaac Watts   (1674 - 1748)   At the young age of twenty, Isaac Watts while spending time at home, wrote the bulk of his Hymns and Spiritual Songs.

John Newton   (1725 - 1807)   Hymn Writer and Minister; The son of a shipmaster in the Mediterranean service. Hardly less famous than the Hymns was his Authentic Narratives.

Ira Sankey   (1840-1908)   Evangelist and Hymn Writer; When Moody heard Sankey sing, he said, "I want you to help me with my work in Chicago. I have prayed for you for eight years!" His songs were so popular that a hymnal selling for six cents produced profits of $388,000 for the publisher.

Genuine Worship   "In the end, worship can never be a performance, something you're pretending or putting on. It's got to be an overflow of your heart... Worship is about getting personal with God, drawing close to God."   Matt Redman

There is a Fountin Filled With Blood

There is a fountain filled with blood
drawn from Immanuel's veins
And sinners plunged beneath that flood
Lose all their guilty stains.

The dying thief rejoiced to see
That fountain in his day;
And there may I, though vile as he
Wash all my sins away.

Dear dying Lamb, thy precious blood
Shall never lose its power
Till all the ransomed church of God
Are saved, to sin no more.

For since by faith I saw the stream
Thy flowing wounds supply
Redeeming love has been my theme
And shall be till I die.

When this poor lisping, stammering tongue
Lies silent in the grave,
Then in a nobler, sweeter song
I'll sing thy power to save.

Written by William Cowper the English poet and hymn writer
